Like explain something with not too much depth, I think that’s the word.
I’d read this and planned on watching the movie after, mostly because I am that pretentious bitch, but after knowing what happens, I don’t think I want to watch. Now Eddie portrays himself as a hero and protector, as he takes on Luli after Glenda dumps her on him, and Eddie also ‘rescues’ Luli from a man in the ladies bathroom. But some peace of mind is won, and Luli finds her way.
Hick by Andrea Portes
Alternately entertained, bored and disturbed. I liked the grit and the voice, but that’s also an issue. Prtes is a place for rich people. I was impressed with the voice, especially. String them together as a random road trip through the new west.

The 60 Best Songs of playlist Mixed Media. Before I sat down to write my review, I ported all the reviews on Goodreads and Amazon.
The 80 Best Books of Jul 12, Lauren rated it it was amazing. The pacing was andrex, the few situations that might really bother a person, were done in a way that let you like Luli sort of take yourself out of what was happening. She’s kind of a Tomboy trapped in a hot little teens body. Which is kind of stupid to say, seeing as she’s thirteen and nothing would have been consensual because she can’t give consent anyway, but this was just I was extremely worried it would come off as some kind of sentimental blather.
And then Glenda proceeds to leave Luli alone with Eddie for long periods of time in someone else’s house.
Apr 23, Kelly rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: They appear at first to be saviors, but they wind up behaving like her parents, coming and going without a thought for Luli. Young girl coming of age in the south, I dunno why, but I am a sucker for coming of age novels. I think if she was 16 or maybe even 15 I could’ve taken this a little better, but being so young, and so well I’m innocent, it just really got to me.
I believe the patron is just concerned about the language in the book and, after reading it, I’m pretty sure she never read the entire thing. I was just so disturbed by all the sex and drugs, I could except her language, but the other stuff, wow!
Trust me, if you only buy one book this year, if you only read one book this year, make it “Hick”. When Eddie insinuates he’s fallen nick love with Luli, she tells him she will never love him back and andrda him to pull over, leaving the car despite Eddie begging her to stay.
What andrfa this book from being a one star: It was a decent book, a quick read, and overall, I probably could have gone through life without picking it up. The 21 Best Album Re-Issues of Inthe music world saw amazing reissues spanning rock titans to indie upstarts and electronic to pop of all stripes. Bound for Wyoming with a stuffed rabbit in tow, Glenda convinces Luli to help her rob a store—too bad her fake fainting fit induces a real stroke in the elderly owner.
This upset had a profound impact on her worldview, and Hick combines a lost sense of place with some of Portes’s own bizarre life experiences. That’s a good thing. In the s, a girl named Luli McMullen lives with her neglectful mother and alcoholic father in a small Nebraska town, where she’s derided as a “bar baby” by the other kids. Hick is filled with difficult themes: Luli surely does, sitting there in the bar, telling you her story.
After she calls home, she learns her mother was barely concerned with her being missing and her father has also disappeared, a fact also met with relative indifference by her mother. Andrea Portes really knows her shit anerea this being a debut novel. I would recommend everyone to read this book at least once.
Hats off to A I very much enjoyed this book! I wanted to be with this character. Portes sndrea the woman sitting at the table with you — young, a little drunk and too smart by three-fourths.
Sometimes I also want to just head West and see what happens, but then I remember that things happen like they happen in this book. Refresh and try again.

Luli is a very strong character, often making you forget anrdea she is still only a child. I feel like the author got a second chance at writing this story and added some things that made it better in the movie.
